LONDON : British pop star George Michael has been arrested in London on suspicion of possessing drugs after being found slumped at the wheel of a car, police sources said.
The 42-year-old former Wham! singer, whose hits include "Careless Whisper" and "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", was taken into custody at Hyde Park Corner in central London on Sunday morning and spent the night at a police station before being released.
An initial charge of driving while intoxicated was lifted, but Michael, who was booked under his real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, must present himself to the police next month to answer a charge of possessing Class C drugs.
The best-selling Sun newspaper, which didn't give any sources, reported that police had found the 'soft' drugs in the boot of his car.
The alleged drug find was said to be cannabis and "liquid ecstasy".
