Liverpool move for Alves stalls
Liverpool's bid to sign Sevilla full-back Daniel Alves has stalled, according to the Spanish club.
The Reds have formally tabled two bids for the 23-year-old but have yet to meet the asking price of around £12m.
Alves is keen to move to Liverpool, but Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido said he wants the Brazilian to stay.
"We're 15% away from reaching agreement in terms of what we want and what they are offering. Negotiations halted on Monday. This makes me happy," he said.
Del Nido admitted that he had not convinced Alves that his future lay with Sevilla.
But he added: "Sevilla doesn't want Alves to leave the club.
"It is the player's desire to leave and the tempting deal they (Liverpool) have offered him has been the reason why we have had to sit down and negotiate."
Brazilian Alves has been at Sevilla for four years now and impressed during their Uefa Cup success in 2006, most notably in the 4-0 demolition of Middlesbrough in the final.

Liverpool's Cisse close to Marseille move
Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is expected to complete his loan switch to Marseille tomorrow.
Cisse, 24, missed the World Cup after breaking his right leg in France's 3-1 friendly win against China on June 7.
He had been tipped to join Marseille during the summer and the club's sporting director Pape Diouf has revealed the deal is now "almost sealed".
Cisse, who arrived at Anfield for £14million in July 2004 from Auxerre, should be fit by Christmas. -
Rafael Benitez has hinted that the fit-again Bolo Zenden could be deployed in a central midfield position at times this coming season.
Zenden had his first season with the Reds cruelly curtailed after suffering a knee ligament injury in the Champions League clash with Real Betis at Anfield back in November.
He's now successfully completed his rehabilitation and Benitez is delighted to have him back at his disposal as he prepares for Saturday's opening pre-season friendly at Wrexham.
"He is training again now and I was really happy with him at the end of last season," says the Liverpool boss about his Dutch winger.
"He was injured, but he was always in the dressing room and he was always encouraging his team-mates and supporting them.
"This year he has started pre-season training really well. I am thinking about using him sometimes as a central midfielder because he has experience at Middlesbrough in this position.
"He also has quality, and with his experience and his game intelligence he can give us more things.
"I think he was happier in this position, and with us losing Hamann, we will have Momo Sissoko, Stevie Gerrard and Xabi Alonso for that position - and maybe Bolo, too."

Liverpool go for cut-price Trezeguet
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez admits he fancies several of Juventus' stars after the club's demotion on Friday to Serie B.
The Sunday Times says Benitez has indicated he will move for several Juventus players this week, notably the France striker David Trezeguet. Benitez, who has only just signed Craig Bellamy for ?6m from Blackburn, sees Trezeguet as a cheap alternative to the likes of Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) and Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord).
Benitez said: "We need to wait for two or three days but there are a lot of good players in these teams and they interest us. They will be a better price now than they would have been three months ago."
Trezeguet, 28, would cost upwards of ?10m, but Juve are keen to strike loan deals that would enable them to hold on to their top stars while they attempt to battle back to Serie A. Such a deal could suit Benitez, who has limited funds. -

Liverpool set up loan deal for Trezeguet
Liverpool chief Rick Parry admits their summer spending is not over.
The Guardian says a loan deal for Juventus striker David Trezeguet is being considered following the Turin club's demotion to Serie B.
The arrival of Trezeguet would give Liverpool a stable of strikers to compete with the other Premiership heavyweights and the chief executive Parry made it clear that, with plans for a new stadium close to fruition, the club's summer spending is not yet over.
"There is a lot of work going on with the stadium and, all being well, it will come to a head soon. That will be in weeks rather than months," said Parry. "Every year is important and we are happy with who we have brought in but we haven't finished yet." -

Seville want £12 million for Alves, but Liverpool are not willing to go much higher than £9 million, although there is a willingness on behalf of both parties to strike a deal, says The Times.
Benitez has admitted to a tentative interest in Juventus fullback Gianluca Zambrotta, which may be an alternative if discussions with Seville for Alves reach a stalemate.

Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of Feyenoord's Holland international striker Dirk Kuyt.
Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of Feyenoord's Holland international striker Dirk Kuyt.
Boss Rafa Benitez will finally get his man in the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Mail, after bombarding the Dutch club with a number of offers, including part-exchange deals involving Jerzy Dudek and Jan Kromkamp.
Kuyt was due back for pre-season training at Feyenoord on Monday but the club have given him seven days off to sort out his future.
Benitez had been worried that the £13.75 million asking price would scupper the deal but Liverpool are now investigating claims that the player has a £10.3 million release clause in his contract.
Kuyt scored 22 goals in 33 league games last season but now wants to play in England.

JAN KROMKAMP and Djimi Traore have been told they can leave Anfield.
The defensive duo form part of Rafa Benitez's bid to raise funds for a new right-sided midfielder and a new striker.
And there are already parties interested in both players.
PSV Eindhoven want to take Kromkamp back to his native Holland.
"We have contacted Liverpool to ask what Kromkamp's status is," said PSV chairman Rob Westerhof. "It is pretty hazy. We don't know if we can loan him or buy him, but we hope to get some clarity soon."
Traore has already attracted interest from Charlton and Bolton.
"Djimi is considering moving on for regular first team action," said his agent Willie McKay. "Rafa Ben?tez has told him he can move if they receive the right offer. The problem is Djimi is on a good contract at Liverpool and he feels they may be pricing him out of a move with their price tag on him." -

Real sports chief Predrag Mijatovic has turned to Xabi after receiving little encouragement from Arsenal this week over Cesc Fabregas.
Liverpool have informed Mijatovic they won't consider selling the Spain international for less than £18 million.
