I respect your beliefs....and also buddhists perspectives too....l believe all "Saviours/Prophets/Teachers/Rabbi/Buddha/Jesus" have things to do on earth....possibly leading people to happiness....afterall we should see the similarities rather than the differences of all major religious beliefs....the founder was a human....he had a set of teachings...that can lead people to true happiness....

2) Jewish Rabbis are encouraged to fuck young girls as young as 3yr-old.......

True.
Generally, Buddhists don't condemn people to go to hell. They are open minded to answer questions. Buddha also encourages people to ask questions, he does not discourage people who ask with doubts.
In general, buddhists are a lot more compassionate, helpful , thoughtful, kind and gracious.

Originally posted by despondent:buddhism is nt older than christianity(depends when u consider christiantiy to have started)...does the quran say tat the essence of Islam is to have a r/s wif God? do the other religions say tat the essence of the religion is to have a r/s wif the deity of the religion? or do they say t5at its abt karma, doing gd etc...christianity is different cos salvation is by grace and nt gd works...gd works is juz a manifestation of ur salvation...its impt and gd but nt for getting to heaven...
i have to say tis...if u do nt come from a creationist mindset, it will be hard for u to accept creationistic religions....if u take an atheist stand, then our discussion shld end here cos its going to be apple-orange argument all the way...u cun discuss anything without a common platform to start wif...how can i play tennis wif someone on a tennis court if he is on a golf course playing golf??? hope u noe wad i mean...
Despondent,
1. So you say salvation by grace is the difference between christianity and other religions. That is the unique thing about Christianity. Is it correct?
2. Yes i am not a creationist, (pls note that creationists can come from islam, christianity, judaism, sikhism or even taoism) but I want to kknow more about all the Creation Gods in all the different religions. It doesn't mean if I am an atheist, I cant question you on religion.
in the 1st place, the emphasis of buddhism is nt abt heaven and hell...from wad i noe, these are temporary realms which will eventually cease to exist as well...nirvana is nt heaven and ppl who fail to be perfectly gd will juz be reincarnated again aka given another chance to live life...those who made it to ''perfection'' attains nirvana...completely different from creationistic religions hence buddhism shld nt be discussed/compared alongside christianity/islam...

Buddhism, Hindusim, Sikhism and Taoism are all seldom slammed because they are not so "aggressive" compared to Christianity.
People put Christianity under more skepticism and scrutiny because Christians always try to "sell and spread" their religion, and this offends people some times.
The bigger claims the religion makes, the more scrutiny it comes under

That is a very good one.
I was brainwashed by christians it was Satan who cause all these. Satan sometimes is used as a scapegoat.
Originally posted by Demon Bane:In all major religions, there are miracles and good testimonies of believers' actually happy or cured of their illness etc....why is that possible ?
I think the human collective consciousness is more important....if many people believe in the same thing for the greater good, miracles will happen ! Irregardless of which religion you choose....as long as you believe wholeheartedly, good things will happen....
So what u guys think about my theory?
tats the main distinct uniqueness...religions in general can be split into 2 main categories: creationistic, non-creationistic...then within each category there are sub-categories...like for creationistic religions, u have polytheism, monotheism...within monotheism like christianity, islam and judaism...
for salvation matters, christianity has tat unique distinction of being the only religion(as far as i know) tat teaches tat salvation is thru grace and nt gd works...even judaism and islam teach salvation by gd works...usually i prefer nt to compare across the categories of creationist and non-creationist as the platforms are very different...

Hi winsomeea
When I was a christian, I was taught to "dislike" all other religions and to stay away from other religions, which caused me to stray away from friends who are not christians. It's not healthy I guess.
But now I realise that all religions are beautiful and that there are SOME truths in ALL religions. Theres not one religion that has monopoly over what truth is.

''outside'' means external physical reality.........................
u see, christianity teaches tat its the only way to heaven...n jesus commanded his followers to reach out and make disciples of all the nations...but in most other religions, the god/deity didnt command the followers like tat...one reason could be cos they dun teach one way only to heaven...so when christians ''sell'' the religion, they are merely obeying the commandment given by Jesus...although i do admit tat there are some christians who hardsell which can be offensive...i was a non-christian b4 so i noe how tat feeling is like...
if buddhists follow the teachings of buddha, wads wrong wif christians following the teachings/commandments of jesus???

I agree with you. Yes, same here I was taught to stay away from other religions and inevitably drove non christians away. My friend told me more than once that when a person is too into christianity, he can cause some kind of tension and piss people off. True!
I have started to learn about buddhism and I am pleasantly surprised what it teaches. It is not as bad as Christianty paints it to be.

Despondent,
Ahhh... yes it is the unique point of christianity, I agree.
But then, EVERY religion has its unique point.
In islam, the unique point is to confess Allah as the only God and muhammed his prophet. Without doing so, no one can go to heaven, as the Quran claims.
In hinduism, the unique point is there many Gods are the manisfestation of one God.
In judaism (old testament Torah), the unique point is that there is no heaven or hell, just the belief in God
So it doesn't mean if your religion has a unique point, it makes it the only true religion. Do you know what I am saying?

Despondent,
Yes the unique point for Christianity is that Jesus is the only way to heaven.
BUT the unique point for Islam is that Allah and prophet muhammed's teachings are the only way to heaven.
So yes there are uniques points in all religions. But it does not make a religion more true than the other.

Sorry, I don't understand your explanation. But it is ok, if I want to know I will ask buddhists.
I find good teachings in all major religious beliefs....so choose happiness !
despondent,
Throughout my discussion with you, you pointed out a few points that you think help prove your God. --
1. Scriptures
2. Personal experiences
3. Unique point of salvation through grace
But I have shown you that ALL other religions prove their respective Gods with the same points too.
So I am a bit confused.
