The mega churches are preaching prosperity theory to get more money for greed.
quite correct understanding of the situation.
YOu scrutinizing every word.
Those who do not know will think all churches behave like mega churches preaching prosperity theory. If want money money, go pray Cai Sheng Ye will do, no need worship God.

I read what Tcmc said to you, "Just leave the money box there and let people give if they want to. " so I ask where he would put the money box. Something you should learn from the buddhist and taoists.
so you go and donate, not to put a box to collect.

Thank God, not all churches are like the mega churches.

The box is for donation. Christian churches have the bags pass round , this is not the practice in temples.

My church also use box, for specific purposes, e.g. donation to support mission to cambodia, or christian education.

sgdiehard,
Maybe you have a prejudice against megachurches. They preach prosperity gospel for very good reasons found in the bible. Maybe you should try to understand them by attending their services before being so judgemental.

You really think "they preach prosperity gospel for very good reasons found in the bible"? just days ago you said " I just don't understand how christian pastors can preach to their members to give 10%". You understand what the mega churches are doing?

bags are for passing around, during service when offering is part of the worship where christians shows our commitment to the cause of the church by offering money. Boxes are to be put there for those who are willing. In my church, non christians are not required to participate in the offering, just pass the bags around.
When the bag is passed around in a "normal" church, you can openly put in as much or little as you want. Or even put nothing in. Nobody cares.
That is the true Christian spirit: Let people give of their own free will, judge not another lest you be judged.
sgdiehard
Yes I dont understand them, but I dont judge them and I've heard how they justify their prosperity gospel with good verses in the bible.
I've been there and listened to their point of view, and I think it's reasonable. Have you even tried to understand their point of view before your accusations?

But I guess there'll always be a certain amount of peer pressure (even among adults) to put in money. This is human nature and you cannot deny it. To pass the bags around when everyone's there, there's peer pressure. Best way is still learn from the temples - to put the boxes there and let anyone give if they want to.
There's no pressure or compulsion
So you support megachurches or not?
A "normal" church has no plan, it grows or doesn't grow on the funds it receives or doesn't receive, ie God's plan.
Megachurches have a plan for how much percentage of your income to take, before you even step into your church. A plan for how much many of you to recruit, and how many more each of you should recruit.
alize
My stand on megachurches is - I don't understand them but I find their reasoning using bible verses REASONABLE. It's not about support or not support. It's about understanding their point of view. Alize, have you tried to understand from their POV?
A "normal" or small church has plans. You say they have no plan because maybe you are not in the leadership. If you go to any church's leaders meeting, it's full of planning and concepts. EVERY organisation needs planning....You sound abit ignorant on this
alize,
Please do answer - HAVE you tried to understand from their POV personally before judging? Did you come to conclusion by hearing what "others" say?

I have tried. And I find 10X-Returns a load of bull.
Are you saying anyone who truly understands them must agree with you?
alize
No you don't have to agree with me and neither do megachurches members and I have to agree with you.
However think about it. They reason that since God is good and is the provider, every christian should prosper if they follow in his ways. I find that it is quite in line with biblical teachings. Prosper materially, prosper spiritually.
Just curious, what about prosperity gospel do you find "strange"?
its ok to make money from churches

I think the same goes to all churches, they don't expect non christians to participate. As usual in catholic and christian churches bags are passed around.

Which mega churches don't preach prosperity theory?
winsomeea,
I think all megachurches teach prosperity. I dont agree with them personally but Im just telling some other christians not to judge them so quickly but instead try to understand other churches
No one is forcing anyone to donate when u walk into a church....not like the pastor holds a gun to your head....if they want to preach on donation....let them preach...end of the day whether n how much to donate is still up to the individual....><"

you are better, because you din't conclude by hearing, you conclude by thinking.
