actually, I wonder what they can do to a student if he/she brings a Harry Potter book to school?Originally posted by 6White_Pawn9:I'm not a christian but I went to an anglican school. They banned Harry Potter books. (?) Why is this so? Is it because of the "Witchcraft and Wizardry" involved?
I actually meant the then ST forum editor.Originally posted by laurence82:Neil Humphrey books is really great abt showing the real sides of sg, but i think perhaps due to censorship, he does temper it down a bit..
Burn him at the stake in the middle of the school field...muahahaha...Originally posted by Poopie-Head:actually, I wonder what they can do to a student if he/she brings a Harry Potter book to school?
it's gonna be fun.
As to whether they are doing it now, i donch noe. I left JC about four years ago...Originally posted by Poopie-Head:They still doing it now?! I thought they got a warning already. ah well, that's what we call media. We don't really know what's happening and non of the authorities bothered to follow up as long as no one else complains again.
I remember the muslims were the only people who were excused from attending and they had free-time in one of the classrooms. One of my indian friends 'escaped' by declaring himself muslim and I did the same but the teachers didnt believe me coz I'm chinese!~~~ LMAO Cant a chinese be a muslim?? Haiz...
Nevertheless, I must say i had great fun. Not in the chapel, but the process of escaping from it, and the stupid excuses the teachers gave to force me to go.
Those were the dayz...
Originally posted by laurence82:my experience was years ahead of urs. So yeah, we need someone to confirm if they still practise this.
Basically they let all Malay and Indian Muslims go off. As long as you are Chinese and others, they forced you to attend the chapel. That time still young, everyone just tiam tiam blur blur follow....
But since we are all young, nobody know their rights. Its good someone raise this issue up. The only consolation i got is that i got good Christian friends who arent at the very least nasty as people in this forum.
Who? Lenn Wei Ling?Originally posted by Kuali Baba:They handed out the "Declaration On Religious Harmony" cards earlier in the year. Irony, anyone?
What do you mean by "its our honeybunzie again" with the roll eyes?Originally posted by laurence82:Firstly, what it got to do with the Buddhist? Oh i forgot, its our honeybunzie again...
Secondly, u realli sure teachers dont force u to attend Mass or Chapel service in Xtians schools? Think again....i come from one such JC which does that.
Originally posted by Honeybunz:What do you mean by "its our honeybunzie again" with the roll eyes?
Nothing to do with Buddhist. We are talking about schools that imposed certain rules on students. I also talked about my sec sch which is neither christian nor buddist. So am I talking about Free Thinker here? Think again.
Too bad for you that you got bullied into attending chapel during your school days. But all my friends who attended mission sch (both Protestants & Catholic) are not made compulsory to attend any services. )
To name a few : Anglo Chinese High, St Pats, SJI, ChristChurch Methodist School (not sure if this is the correct name. Only remember it's methodist school).
Assuming that your teachers did force you and other students to attend chapel, I certainly don't condone .
Sorry
Can't continue. have to rush...

for the fact this topic is abt christian schools and hairy pothead, and nothing to do with other religion watsoever?
What the heck is Anglo Chinese High?
i didnt say all, but heck, there are. Thank u for supporting my points. Too bad there are Xtians who force people to attend these chapel services, and too bad there are fellow xtians who are nonchalant abt issues like this..
Originally posted by Honeybunz:Nobody is talking about religion lah.
This topic is about mission schools setting the school rules partially based on the religious teaching. HP is banned in Christian schools because witchcraft is not allowed as far as Christians groups are concerned. That is why the anglican school that was mentioned by the thread starter banned such books.
Which school forced you to attend chapel? Actually you could complain to Ministry, couldn't you?
Anglo Chinese Hi is a methodist school, isn't it? My friend from there said so.
Then nobody tried convert you?...hheheOriginally posted by the Bear:Anglo-Chinese Secondary School
it's Methodist.. i know.. i went there
Originally posted by Honeybunz:Then nobody tried convert you?...hhehe
Originally posted by Honeybunz:How come called Anglo Chinese when it is a Christian school ah?
I thought Christian sch like to use names like Church of Christ School, or Holy Spirit School etc.
Anglo = English
Chinese = Chinese
