Then what about my sec school that forced me to cut my fringe?Originally posted by stupidissmart:The reasons behind banning harry potter in anglican school is the same reason for banning pokemon (or digimon) in some conservative muslim regions. They felt tat the star of david during one of its transformation is linked with jews. Even though the content of the book is okie, they ban it just because they felt it was associated with something else. If u ask me, it has gone overboard.
haha. i won't bow. last time i will, cuz i not christian, haha but now i wun. muahahaOriginally posted by Honeybunz:While some schools ban certain things... other school force students into doing other things.
A local buddhist pri sch wants students to bow whenever they walk past a buddha statue, regardless of what religion you are. At least Christian school teachers don't force you to attend morning Mass or Service if you're not a baptised Christians.
Firstly, what it got to do with the Buddhist? Oh i forgot, its our honeybunzie again...Originally posted by Honeybunz:While some schools ban certain things... other school force students into doing other things.

ACJC, SAJC or CJC?Originally posted by Poopie-Head:yes. I was from tat JC too. but i heard a year after i left, they were told not to force students to attend chapel anymore. the big hoo-haa made it to the first page top news of Straits Times.
I remember I had fun running from the chapel. I was thinking what can the teachers do to me if i refuse to attend, are they gonna kick me out of that school? What reason could they use? But in the end, i attended becoz there was a very nice teacher who asked me to go, i dont wanna make things difficult for her.
I have very very bad impression of that JC - their rules are too strict, some teachers are too bossy and arrogant. oh well....
oh sorri. not ACJC.Originally posted by laurence82:ACJC, SAJC or CJC?
Was from ACJC...and the teachers there are bloody bossy and arrogant, not to mention breathing down one neck all the time..
and this comment does not come only from me or few people, it comes also from friends who spent first three months in other JCs and came into AC after getting their Os results...
And boy am i glad that someone wrote to ST abt this, goodness, if such behaviour comes from gahmen schools, missionary or not, goes unchecked, we will have exactly the people we see in this forum - total disregard for other people beliefs in a small but diverse multi religious society...
Which Christian school does not do it, thats the question..Originally posted by Poopie-Head:oh sorri. not ACJC.
meh... that means more than one JC doing that.. LMAO
and i'm not sure if someone did write to ST or not, but i remembered clearly the topic was the main news for that day. I was surprised.
and my story from long time ago liaoz...
<--- old man
They still doing it now?! I thought they got a warning already. ah well, that's what we call media. We don't really know what's happening and non of the authorities bothered to follow up as long as no one else complains again.Originally posted by laurence82:Which Christian school does not do it, thats the question..
My friends in CJC and SAJC told me the same thing too..
See the topic is about Christian views on Harry Potter, donch noe why they must use other religion as analogy or something...
In anyway, if u got hold of the article, PM me thanx. I go post it up.
Neil Humphrey books is really great abt showing the real sides of sg, but i think perhaps due to censorship, he does temper it down a bit..Originally posted by Kuali Baba:They are everywhere...I do remember one letter a few years ago where the author petitioned the authorities to ban Harry Potter. It received a mention in Neil Humphreys's "Notes From An Even Smaller Island." I'm appalled that the editor decided to publish it!
