What are your thoughts on RPGs without the "World Map".

Gamers who have played earlier RPGs will know what I am talking about. You'll have a "world map" in FF7, FF8 & FF9. But in FF10, the so called "world map" has changed to a "point & click" version which stinks...
Also, I noticed that every other newer RPG is following this "trend" too. The "No world map trend".
What are your thoughts...

It is easier and faster without world map but it takes out some fun. But still i prefer no world map rpg.

but some games have 'expandable world maps'...
So still have to navigate a bit... -
They need to bring back the world map. Without it, it lacks exploration. The whole feeling of playing the game feels so linear. I prefer the feeling of exploring the world map, finding secrets and stuff.
