I try to get original games not because i am so "holy" but i care about the quality. Many a time you get fustrated if you got a unoriginal game that does not work or not a full version.
Expensive they may be but for me quality matters and i will check out reviews on them before plunging cash into them.
Music Cds are also original. Just to show support for my fave singers

Original games comes with manuals. hehe
and the box also very nice. but my house almost no place to keep the boxes liaos .

my gf like to buy original games too, she have whole set of sims,from "livin' large" to "superstars". And she say she's going to buy the next,also last expansion of sims, "makin' magic".
for me, i download games from iMesh, and some chinese warez site.
sometime buy pirated games too but nowdays hard to find, used to have 2 pirated game shop in Yishun central, both gone now. For original games, i have about ten so far. -

Hardly find any decent Macintosh games ard SG. So... ahem.
So Far, the original Game I bought is Championship Manager. Bought the last two ones... hmm... the latest one... DL. -
I buy a mix of legal and 'friendly' copies of games.
For my GameCube games, there's really no other way around it - all my stuff here has to be original.
As for the PS2, a large part of my pathetic collection are DVDRs. Why? Easy availabilitiy, low-risk, low-cost. I especially like the low-risk and low-cost parts: I can try more games with less money, and even if I don't like that game, my wallet doesn't take great hit.
Occasionally, I do buy original PC and PS2 games. In these instances, there are often significant advantages in owning the original copy. For instance, I bought original copies of Neverwinter Nights and Warcraft III simply because I want a no-fuss online experience. I also bought the original Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance for my PS2 mainly because my PS2 could not play 'friendly' DVD9 games. Oh yeah, and there was this once when I bought an extremely under-ultilised Capcom Vs SNK (Dreamcast) game for $109, when I had been playing the 'friendly' version a week prior to taking the plunge. Simply out of infatuancy, that was.
If you ask me why piracy is so rampant these days, I'd blame it on the lack of R&D in the field of game packaging. Sure, the game content is ever improving, but the storage media, the attractive boxes, the extra fan-freebies, etc, etc, have hardly seen any improvement. If game publishers start getting smarter and pack in more significant stuff that piracy supporters would otherwise never be able to get their hands on, then I believe the scene would improve.
Don't stop at the box-art and instruction manuals, dear [insert-game-publisher-name-here]! Go beyond! Most gamers don't really want box-art and instrcution manuals anyway - it's the game and experience that they want!! Give out exclusive fan merchandise! And then do some more!
Basically all industries these days resort to R&D as the competitive factor. The rule is that copies will start spawning a year down the road if you hit the gold. Unfortunately, the game publishing industry has become so predictable that pirates simply copy most videogames they can grab a hold of, since nearly every game is a success of some level. What many successful businesses have done is to improve their quality, offer better value (read: cheaper prices), and customer service. I believe game publishers have done little in these areas, and hence it is mostly their fault for the rampant piracy. They allowed it to spiral out of their control. Too bad.
Three cheers to piracy! We don't owe those game companies their lunches - I chose a better provider for my gaming needs! What can you do about it? Sue me? But you aren't taking action!
