I feel that NS should be mandatory for girls who take peace for granted.
Always complaining about the guys and their weapons as toys and all that.
Look at the big picture here. Men suffer for 2 yrs of their life some even more to protect the peace and freedom of women and children. And when war breaks out ? you hear the girls screaming for help .....
These girls ought to learn to "keep quiet" unless they are willing to fight and die for their country.
My apologies if this offended anyone, as mentioned not all but just these minority girls tend to screw things up. -
well seems like they goverment is very serious about it this time due to a falling birth-rate and thus lower manpower pool....Also we have an interesting 0.95:1 guy to girl ratio for the ages 15-69...meaning we have less guys then girls....meaning we cant spare the combat fit guys into duties like being clerks and other non combat rolesOriginally posted by jasmine17:Do you girls think N.S for us is neccessay ?

A lecturer of mine once said something along the line of this:
If guys demand that girls go through mandatory NS, then won't that make us guys wimps?

this ain't what the armed forces is all about. SAF protects the singapore from invasion and those who threathen our stability. -
NS is not just about MINDEF or army, other areas oso can...like Cilvil defence...etc

National Service for girls does not necessarily have to come in the form of physical training to prepare them for battle at the front line.
National Service for girls should be about teaching them first aid skills and skills in leading the old and the young to shelters in times of unrest or emergency. And not to mention, some self-defence skills. And survival skills.
While the men are fighting it out on the battle field, we cannot expect to waste more resources by depending on the males again to tend to the soldiers' injuries.
We can more fully utilize our human resources! by having the women [whom by nature have a nurturing nature] take care of the injured and do things like preparing meals.
In times of war, the last thing we need is more helpless people. Hence, if girls are made to do National Service, we will have less problems when it really comes to war. Instead of becoming a burden to the soldiers, wahey! we're independent and the guys don't have to worry about us while fighting!

The bottom line is, every Singaporean, irregardless of gender should play some pro active role in national def, no matter what area.

i think girls doing national service is not a bad idea.. because our main objective is to protect our country. If we have hands and legs, we could train them to do useful things..for our country people.

Guys shld serve NS then Girls can help by serving nursing lor...
Like tat more fair..we need more nurses lor...but NS too long liao...maybr 1 yr can liao le.... -
agree... everyone has a part in protecting our country...
maybe those stronger girls can be train in area like signal(some areas) and logistic.
while those weaker one can be clerk or medic..

1 year to train soldiers is not enough...heck 2.5 years is barely enough in this high tech age -
