I just bought a 2nd hand Marvel heros (mixed type for 4 players) game yesterday... $30...
wow.. eh.. buy at wii shop alright la.. but the games are those old school GBA or what games.. and some classic GBC mario etc.. :P now USD price cheap ma.. should spend more! :D USD$10 bucks = 1000 Wii points. Typical decent game around 800 Wii points.
And it's lifetime, they remembers your Wii! Lets say you lost all data, you can always download again once they registered you spent the points there.. :) so don't worry even if you pay and download half way dc or what.. :D
I spent 500 points on the INternet channel.. quite alright la.. sometimes nua on sofa read sgf or play facebook. can also play Youtube all these. hehe.. convert the currency, considering lifetime, it's really a small sum to pay for the work of the nintendo staff..
still got 500 points, been looking at some of the games there.. dun want to anyhow waste it.. in case I can stack up buy one good one!

You mean you have to spend 500 points to surf internet on Wii on top of the subscription fee you're paying for your internet....?

eh.. the 500 wii points is spent on buying the browser on wii la.. it's a one time payment life time thingy la.. Honestly, it's just like less one macdonalds meal but you get an option on the wii for life.
Nintendo is Nintendo, Singnet is Singnet. so one provide program on its console, the other provided connection and you set up your own wireless.. I don't see the problem mah..
I know there is an argument on paying for a supposingly free browser la.. but it's okay for me.. I don't mind paying that small amount.

Especially given that the download games are quite cheap?
Hey gais!
Just aquired a Wii, US set, modified, and with a few games.
I'm looking for LoZ: Twilight Princess so can install some hack to load Wii Channels and the like...
Any idea where to buy Wii games? The *coughpiratedcough* type?
Preferably near Ang Mo Kio or something. I know there used to be a stall around there, but I just went to check today, and it must've moved...
Thanks lots...
Oh yes, anyone know where to get a GameCube controller too?
I'd like to play some Gamecube games as well. Tried AMK Cash Converters but the guy at the game counter looked at me like 'o_O' when I asked him if they had one. Then he sorta ran away... (I thought he was going to check for me too. He seemed to look like he was.)
Any idea?

US set also can mod now? lol.. sorry ah I don't have links for *ahem* games... my wii no mod! :)
Zelda I completed lo~ :D
I'm not really all that interested in the LoZ game... Just wanted to use it to load Nintendo channels and VC games. I found another way to do it without LoZ now, though. ^^
But still looking for *ahem* games and a GC Controller... If you know where to get any of these, yeah, please tell me. ^^;
Yeah, all sets can be modded. ^^; (They've been able to mod quite some time ago already, if I'm not wrong.)
Oh, instead of a GC controller, look what I found.
http://tinyurl.com/6jwzbu
Cheaper and easier to find, Plus can play with a familiar controller! Yay! :D

Hmm... Can you explain the installation of hack to load Wii channels?
So far I've yet to come across non-original games in Singapore... Do keep me updated if you come across any? Where did ya get your Wii system set from? Heard they have to be specially modified in order to play non-original games....?

duh.. pirates. why don't you ask the modders where to find those games? or better, go download yourself la.. 4gb each on BT.
Wii channels mostly free channels. unless you're downloading Wiiware or Virtual Consoles. okay la, personal preferences. go find what you want, I don't know how to get them.
Try lurking and reading up around forums such as GBATemp.net, or MaxConsole. They're pretty helpful people, as long as you don't spam or act like a n00b. ^^
Non-original games can be gotten mostly from those gui-gui-sui-sui stalls that sell pirated software and PS2/PC games and suddenly disappear like the next day. The shops sell Wii games too, but I didn't have a Wii back then, so didn't take much notice. Don't see them around anymore, though. Singapore Police must've busted a few rings or something. >.>
I got my Wii set from SC Games at Jalan Besar Road. Was a tad more expensive than I expected, but they seem to know their stuff quite well. Quite a reliable place. Also, all those WiiSports add ons and extra Wii-motes/Nunchucks were cheaper than other places.
Yeah, before modification, a Wii can only play games from the region it is from, either PAL or NTSC, and original games.
With modification, (Ie. Soldering a chip into the Wii Motherboard), you can play nearly all games from all regions, and pirated/burnt games as well
Some shops sell readily modified sets, but if you like a challenge, can buy the chip and go home to solder yourself. No guarantees, though. ^^;
@cuddles:
Most people who mod their Wiis live in America, so of course they wouldn't know any local info... I heard Yahoo Auctions got some guy selling like $4.50 for one game and if buy in bulk got good discount, though. Might try that.
I'm downloading from Bitorrent now. After leaving my computer on for like 4 days, less than 20% is done. Sometimes it's even worse, 0 Seeders, 0 Leechers. So, yeah. BT's quite bad to download older Wii games.
About Wii Channels, the only one I wanted was the internet one. Got it now, though. (Not many Wii channels around to use anyways. >.>)
VC games I wanna play lots, since I've never owned a Gamecube or Nintendo 64. (Way before my time. >.>)

eh.. me not the one looking for mods or what.. just asking about it.. as I only read about mod on jap sets..
anyway I won't be modding the set. I mean, I don't have time to buy and play that many games. and I don't play jap games, so I don't see the need for modding, to me.
the Main reason why I support nintendo is for Zelda. been playing zelda since the gameboy days.. and I think Nintendo has done a great job bringing interactive unique gaming experience to us. Before wii, people would wish they could do more with their controllers.
I'm not rich, but I feel that sometimes, if you can afford it, we should support the creators. Even for music, I still buy cds of my fav artisties. if you're like still schooling, maybe some points I made can be overlooked. :P

Wonder if the software which provides the 'upgrading' to play games from all regions almost the same thing as a modifying a set? And if it can be done using a software, why would they even bother with a chip installation in the 1st place?
WAH. You make it sounds that loading Wii games from internet is really a bad option...? -.-"
I think we should really meet up and play some Wii together one day....?
I've already got 2 consoles set (remotes & nunchucks), all we need is another 2 more....?

I also got two wiimote sets with nunchunks.. :D recently I read that the Shiro brand is fake good leh! must beware ah.. buy original controllers!
Lol, thankfully my Wiimotes and Nunchuks are real. ^^;
About that 'software' that allows you to play games from other regions, do you mean the Freeloader disc?
It only allows you to play original games from other regions, but not pirated games. ^^;
The net is only good for getting recently released games. (Like, 1-2 days after release, that sort of early.)
Main reason why I modded my Wii was to play Pirated games, and to play Japanese release games before they're release in America. (An impatient person I am. >.>)
Yeah, I've heard good things about Zelda: TP (Toilet Paper? XDD). Might try it soon, loved it's predecessors. ^^;
Yes, I am still schooling, so I have don't have a lot of money I can use. (In fact, this Wii I have is actually a birthday gift that was bought by all my aunts and uncles from both sides of the family. >.>)
Also, it seems that people who are in the creative industry pirate things the most. (I'm studying in a digital media course, so, yeah. I know. >.>)
Our world is a strange one... o_O
anyone knows where to get wii points in singapore?

eh.. I think people all over the world is pirating no matter which industry or what la.. Everybody pirates in one way or another.
DMD in NYP is it? :D
^ Lol, that was quick. Yup, that's my course. XDD
erm then how will i get the wii points if buy it in wii shop?
I think you have to like make a Wii shop account online, then sort of parent your account to your Wii, whose country is set to Brazil. Something like that. (Not sure of details)
I believe your points will then be loaded, and then you can buy whatever you want.
(Beware, though. The Wii doesn't have a lot of space. After like 3-5 VC games it's memory is full. Use an SD card whenever possible)
wah, thread so detailed, so much to read. just a few questions about the current wii situation.
how much does a wii cost currently? and buy from where one?

I think a typical US/local wii set should still be 600+ comes with a single wiimote and nunchunk.
you can buy a second wii-mote together with wiiplay for around 70-80 bucks.
if you don't understand jap, get a US/Local Set! :P since someone mentioned you can *ahem* any set anyway..
