Hi guys, just wanna check wit u all.
is it actually worth it to get a DS Lite ?
cos i gt lots of package rangin from $260+ to $360.
some told me its a local set, some is a export set.may i know what to look out for ?
if its a export set, how much should it usually cost ?
any places that u all can recommend me to get it cheap? i tried sim lim and the price differ alot.

I recommend you to get the package with no "2 Games + NDS Lite" etc.. Or to cut it short, try not to get any package that comes with games.
Choosing between exported set or non exported is totally up to you. Local set comes in all the colours cept for white and black. Exported set is white and black. Local set has warranty (official one) whilst exported set doesn't.
Many tend to fret over the "exported no warranty, I buy later got prob jialat liao" situation. My advise to you is to ask the shop uncle do they provide warranty for the NDS Lite, like if you find anything wrong, you can come back for help. Not many shops will do this, but just try your luck.
To buy at Sim Lim is err... complicated. Make sure you know what is in the set that you're buying, and is anything wrong. Know the range of price and know when to haggle, when not to. If you know what you're doing, you can get great prices for your item.

actually is there really any BIG different from the export set ?
i heard that the adapter got problem right ? apart from that ? only the warrantly?
the rest the same? then i still dont get it how come the price of export and local set will differ so much. just because of a warrantly ?

From what I know, the sellers are not that keen to sell local set without the 2 games package, thats why the high price.
Adaptors and chargers are working fine for me, I'm a non-local set user. I've played both imported and non-imported set. Both plays the same.
If you're asking why the stand alone local set differs much from the stand alone non-local set, I don't really know why. The only reason I know is the packaging and the warranty. -

i recommend export set. no point getting local set. jus take extra good care of your ds can already, won't spoil so easily.
if u wanna get r4, go yahoo auctions and find lor. my whole 'set' buy seperately from all over sg. in the end, cheaper than my fren who bought a 'guaranteed' cheapest package in sg. -
There is black and white for local sets too, in fact all colours are available for export and local sets. But if you are getting those limited edition sets, like the Brain Age 2 Crimson / Black set etc, there is only export sets
The only diff in local and export sets are the warranty, which is 3 months provide for Maxsoft. Export sets are are only $10 cheaper to local sets, so paying $10 for 3 months warranty, why not?
In fact, if you bought an export set, it will be a 2 pin charger as most export sets come from US or Japan. If the shop is good, they will do a 1 to 1 exchange on the charger from a 2 pin to 3 pin, at no extra cost.
I do know a place which sell a local set with r4, 1gd micro sd, screen protecter and casing @ less then $350. PM me if you want the address.
Buying seperately from all over sg might be cheaper on the surface, but by how much? The savings will be only about $20 - $30. And if you take into the consideration of transport charges, the saving might not be high. So you might as well get everything done at a shop, and if you got any problems, you can look for them for help too.

my cousin bought a nintendo ds lite recently. Looks like crap to me. Is it comparable to a psp?

i have a ds lite and my bro has a psp slim. i think psp relies on pretty graphics, while ds relies on gameplay and interaction. so whichever you like will depend on wad kind of gamer u are.
personally i definitely prefer the ds. Psp can get pretty boring after u got over the initial stage of admiring the graphics. -
Just my two cents,
I have both a PSP and DS. though i am not using them now, from my experience, the PSP is only good if u want a device to carry your music videos and some games. Though the games seem good, most a crap unless you buy some of those japanese games (which i didn't cos i do not understand jap). If you have a music playing phone, a mp3 player or a video player, don't bother buying the psp and instead buy the DS as it has more value for games though not as good graphics. -
can ur PSP play touch screen? or see the 2 screen classic Nintendo?

but be it export or local sets, up to u lor.. the thing u shld be aware is that the charger is NOT local plug compatible... some will con u i, tell u that " i add in the charger n the the whole set is $xxx" OR "u buy the console, charger for local de, i charge u $xx, but the original price is $yy."
the charger that comes with the console can only be used in Japan as the voltage n the pin are different.
the charger for local plug shld come free...
so u shld have 2 chargers, 1 console, 2 stylus as 1 complete set. the wad free games de, is additional one lah...
but i suggest u get the consoles with free games.. 1 game will cost u abt $50 on the average.
but it's up to u to get either local or export set with regards to the warranty.. but warranty also no use.... u get the good covers/protectors for u console and dun any how throw or drop ur NDS can liaoz... -
yeah.. i prefer DS too... i tink game conesoles shld be lydat... 2 screen... up n down...
if like PSP lydat, might as well play the game on ur tv...

yeah ds lite's double screen make it real nice to play. Plus its user friendly and loads really fast. Battery lasts really long also. Can blow into the screen, can use touchpen or finger. Want to play games, just download from the internet can le.
Plus if you already have a ps2, no point getting a psp as the games are pretty similar. I think ds lite is probably a better choice considering its very cheap as well.
