The first official pictures of Wii and PlayStation 3 box-art have hit the web, and opinion seems to be divided.
In a move that breaks from the tradition, the Wii box-art (above left) features no Nintendo logo anywhere on the front. Usually, games featured on Nintendo systems have ‘Licensed by Nintendo’ emblazoned somewhere upon their front cover. It’s also interesting to note that the Wii isn’t being referred to as the ‘Nintendo Wii’ – again, a change from the norm.
The Wii cover certainly seems to hint at a sense of sophistication and minimalism, which (on the whole) has gone down quite well with spectators. The same cannot be said of the PS3 box-art, which has been slightly more controversial.
While it has long been known that the console’s ‘Spiderman’ logo was fairly unpopular, the game casing appears to be even less popular. Though still unconfirmed, its expected PS3 discs will come in blue boxes displaying the Blu-ray format, as pictured. The PS3 is going for that not-especially-sophisticated or minimalist look then.
