what's the difference between, pentium, celeron, AMD, centrino, besides the price? my current PC is 2.6 GHZS is it too slow? any idea where to get cheap and good laptop that is good for surfing?thkx

Pentium is their processor line, Centrino and Celeron are processor names. Celeron slower and older than Centrino. Centrino used in most laptops nowdays and has built-in wireless.
2.6GHz quite good for a PC. You should be able to use it for another 2 years without it being too outdated.
You get laptop based on your own requirements and budget. The definition of cheap and good laptop varies for everyone. You can check out online website of the different brands if your lazy to go shopping malls -
Do not get Celeron. It is less powerful than Centrino, and Centrino is definitely less powerful than a Pentium 4 CPU. I run Matlab and Maple (not MapleStory, but Maple Soft - Command the Brilliance of Mathematics) on my 1.7GHZ Centrino laptop. It is so slow.. The same software runs so much faster and smoother on 2.6GHZ Pentium 4 Workstation at college.

Centrino is a mobile technology developed by Intel. AMD is a brand competing with Intel. AMD clock speed may seem slower than Intel, but in actual fact, it is not. It is due to the way AMD chipsets are configured. Anyway, it doesn't matter because AMD performs as well as an Intel chipset.
Celeron is built based on Pentium 4. Celeron chips have lesser cache than P4 chips, which accounts for the difference in performance.
Pentium is also another name, just to differentiate between the different generations of Pentium chips. Usually the difference in clock speeds. Pentium I clock speeds ran at 60MHz, but Pentium II chips ran at 450MHz. -

intel makes pentium, celeron and centrino processors. pentium processors comes with bigger cache as compared to celeron, latter which targets the low ended economic users..centrino is a newer technology used in laptop in particular tweaked to consume lower power.
amd also makes processors and is a rival company to intel....amd makes opteron (server processors), anthlon (versus pentium) and duron (versus (celeron yrs ago)...but loses out a little in the laptop market to intel....heard that amd is winning intel in the server market...as for desktop...only enthusiast are won over and seems to be more interested in amd.
if u just want to surf with a notebk....go get anyone that fits yr budget no need to ask one
most sub 2k notebks out there are good enuff
