PS2 modding help

  OK i don't play console games at all but got some questions? My sis gonna loan me her new PS2 but said I need to get the chip modded etc etc to play local games & stuff like that?
  
  Just wondering how much it costs & what I shld be looking out for? Also where can I do it? Noob here so help me out plz!
