Why do shops still end prices with .99 instead of rounding up? No-one's fooled anymore...
You might not be but research shows many still are.
Recent studies conducted around the world have shown a price eniding in .99 produces up to 8% more sales than a rounded-up figure.
There are several theories for this. One is that people have a limited capacity for information and , when bombarded by lots of different price tags, their brains take in only the first digit or couple digits on a tag.
Another theory is that when a price is very specific, shoppers are more likely to associate it with honesty than a slightly higher, round figure. Some cuustomers may also experience a feel good factor when receiving change.
