can we fairly say the secret societies is a result of the socio-economic issues rather than it's a balancing factor?
SS historically originates from territorial control... a certain group of ppl starts out asking for protection money... and they grow in size by offering 'brotherhood' and protection... usually it's the lust of quick, lucrative profits from the things they do.. and they usually end up in vices.. exploiting human weakness for their greed for riches.. and their cravings for pleasurable vices such as sex and drugs..
as long as there's proverty.. a greed for power and money... SS will evolve.. it'll be hard to stamp it out..
does it contrinute to the economy? in certain ways it does... money laundering is a huge source of cash flow right? i would think there are many others things they are involved in.. but weighing the harm that it cause to the society.. i think they are a bane of the society... drugs, sex, and all other vices have caused broken families, death, poverty... most of them ignore the consequences of their trades just because it gets them the money...
economically they may be of some contribution... but i think i'd rather not have them around... -

Correction!! the origin of SS can be traced to china feudal system period.....rich landlords go around collecting money from the poor farmers (whom they rent the land to) and when money was not duely submitted, the landlords hire ka kias to go around making trouble....as a form of threaten to make them pay up.......
when these rich landlords get richer, they set up gambling dens....brothels....bribe officials.....from there engage in "dark trades".....to get more money.....and oso to expand their territory.....
neighbouring gangs often fight over land (cos land means money).....
the modern day SS boss is of no difference in mentality and way of operation....but in a different environment only.....and of cos....smarter to look for loopholes in law......
the tradition is basically the same.......but SS bosses now preferred to be called businessmen......for all u know, they are caring husbands and lovable dads too..... -
