Govt encourages more singles to get married

SINGAPORE: The government would like to encourage more singles to get married, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister-in-Charge of Population Issues, Mr Teo Chee Hean.
Speaking to the media at a Babies Day Out event at the Sengkang Community Club on Sunday, Mr Teo said when singles do get married, they too have children.
Singapore's fertility rate has been falling in recent years, and hit a record low of 1.15 in 2010. But it went up slightly last year, to 1.20.
"I am very happy to see that when couples get married, they do want to have children. What we need is an environment which is supportive of families... We need everyone - community, parents, grandparents, family and friends to support young families to have kids," said Mr Teo.
"There are already many initiatives to have babies and the government can only do so much. A lot really depends on individuals," he added.
More than a hundred babies took part in Sunday's event. Advisors from Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC were also on hand to congratulate the winners of the various contests held in conjunction with the baby show.
The event also celebrated family life and parenthood in the community.

If you dun get married, you dun produce baby.
Then, dun blame us for importing more foreigner to localise them.
As for the localised singaporean, we are glad that you have brought your whole family over to keep the place overcrowded, you will be duly rewarded with free schooling and free allowance paid from the local who refused to marry or make babies.
You will also be employed under cheaper salary for jobs that local are choosy about.

come on - they should give couples advice propoer like planning before starting a family and having kids. parents and religion creed nevermind - but just cous wanna boost population rate they can say thuis type of thing. singapore so small need so big population for what? so tehy can go casino gamble?

The problem with having kids in Singapore is that when the kids grow up, they cannot even afford a roof over their head, housing so expensive nowadays... so parents felt in some ways, that they created their babies out to suffer...

singaporeans where got no money? $1k can easily buy a hdb flat. if you make $2k, you can by theory own 2 hdb flat, thereby making you a millionaire.so by PAP Minister's theory, I can expand that if you're making $2k/month, you're a millionaire already. hahaha... their theories, really a joke when you think about it.

have the system done what it could to provide a conducive environment for marriage? what a big NO to the system.... needless to say.....all they have done is biased towards the female population, from legal protection to divorce maintenance... the one biggest mistake they made is they done it all at the expense of the male population.... marriage is contractual...therein lies the terms and conditions not in men's favour....as these terms become increasingly eskewed towards the femmes...it only means its greater liability for men.... what a naive system the policy maker ...or deliberately intends.... keep up with the rise of singles! and congrats

the problem starts from the wrong footing... it should have been balanced steadily than moving fast to push for more proactive and aggressive women charter policies....with total neglect and inconsideration of male's position.... what they have done is irreversible...unless there is a radical review on women charter to include better leeways for males to even consider marriage a fruitful endeavour... the system never gets it....

Qn: How does the system make us feel about marriage in singapore? Ans: There is no such thing as marriage, but a piece of contract and unlimited liabilities for Sg men.

if the system says that they can only solve real problems, but not problems of emotions...it is exactly the psychological aspects which the system needs to be sensitive about...though not able to resolve or micro-manage them...but at the very least do not aggravate it via aggressive gender-biased policies overemphasizing females over the males.... now, here is the problem, rather than to balance it and why make it worse? happy?
