IIRC, there's a clause in the ROK Army. If the individual does exceptionally well in regional and state examinations, he will be exempt from the ROK Army in lieu of his performance. However he would have to sign a bond wif the ROK Army, stating that he will not give up his Korean citizenship(so to minimise the loss of local talent) forever. The individual will also receive lifetime pension.

And oh, if you don't know this, the Korean birthrate is uber low too... Korean couples just refuse to have babies... Apparently the men's ego gets over their heads... So much so that the ROK govt has to give out money to couples to have children... LOL... Compare that wif China hahahhahahahaha...
In Korea, the latest trend is the DINK lifestyle... Double Income No Kids... Kinda coool really... But nowadays you almost won't see couples having more than 2 kids... Simply incredible... The cost of bringing up a child in Korean is ~!
Not forgetting that the Koreans would only want to have the best for their children and send them to the best possible schools... Wan zi cheng long...
On the same issue, Koreans will go for the more pricier tings den cheaper products... I D K why too, but apparently there is a concept in their minds that more expensive things equates to better products LOL~!
its is the same thing all the developed nations are facing same goes for japan etc... ageing population.

LOL but I dun think Japan dishes out money to married couples to have children~!
u know we have the baby bonus too right?

But in Korea, the Govt subsidises basic education till the university level, guarantees a university slot(any uni, so there is still a rush for spots in the BEST unis), tuition fee subsidies, and grants to the child in the range of S$500,000.
That is not including the sum of money that the govt pays the couple to have the kid
but there are plenty of korean who attend schools here since young.

Yah. I know. That is why the Korean govt is so concerned about 1 the loss of local talent to other countries and 2 the loss of population...
Many Koreans send their kids here coz they can learn English and Chinese here... Added bonus in the working force when they seek employment...
