Award Movie Review: In The Mood for Love

Caught the movie last night at Golden Horse Awards Showcase Festival, I'm not a WKW movie fan but after watching this....
Chow Mo-wan(Tony Leung) and Su Li-zhen(Maggie Cheung) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are polite and formal; until a discovery about their respective spouses sparks an intimate bond. The two begin a clandestine friendship, and soon discover their desire turning from revenge to genuine passion.
A stylistic masterpiece for so many reasons, the most obvious being the sheer beauty of it. WKW immortalizes everything in frame, from cigarette smoke to droplets of rain, from noodle steam to the grill of a small metal fan, not forgetting the artistic love scene.
A simply stunning motion picture in all, acting, film technique, cinematography, music, etc.
From the movie:
Chow: "On your own, you are free to do lots of things. Everything changes when you marry. It must be decided together..." Su: "I didn't know married life would be so complicated! When you're single, you are only responsible to yourself. Once you're married, doing well on your own is not enough!"

Agreed.
Breathtakingly stylistic and I almost thought WKW captured the souls of the pair in the show in such naked depth. Love the smothering intimacy depicted so intricately even when the characters are shown barely touching each other.
As good as Days of Being Wild.. if not, better.
The soundtrack is my all-time favourite too. -

Labbit and i also watched a WKW movie just now........ 2046 vcd. -
I just happen to be at right place on the right time...to watch this Movie!
2046...another movie up on the my DVD list! -
watched tt 3 yrs ago......
1st time din quite get it......
watched 2nd time....oso still blur.....
3rd time then more or less fully liao gai......
tts the "joy" of watching WKW films.....mus concentrate 100%...
1st time look at the settings and clothes.....(and the hairstyles!)
2nd time focus on the tai ci
3rd time combi of both....
the theme song Yumeji's Theme by Shigeru Umebayashi......fits the show 100%.......
2046 made alotta reference to ITMFL..... -
for a min there, i thought it was one of the 2046's scene i dozed off watching.
yes, i dozed off and couldnt appreciate 2046. penguin says i am not artisitic enough.
but i think the director is trying too hard to be artistic.

Such a gorgeous movie.
I'm so inspired after watching ITMFL, must follow it up with 2046.
Strangely.. i found 2046 very enticing too.
I love it. So.... into it.. attachment and detachment.. -
