Soon all schools will need to learn the chinese classics and recite chinese poems.
I think the locals should not b having difficulty speaking chinese to the chinese national unless the mandarin used by them is too difficult for the local to understand.
yeah but please bear in mind that not all of us can speak mandarin naturally and it is getting on our nerve as it is like a 'baricade' between the minorities and the mandarin speaking community

I think they see you no up if you cannot understand their mandarin.

actually.. they themselves are not able to understand each other also lah.
Different region the mandarin got different accent ok ?
Some of them locals always make fun of the Beijing chinese got lazy tongue.
I think the gradual rise of China will make Spore more dependent on the country for trade.

i agree with you. just that day i went to buy fish slice beehoon. Placed order with china tomboy lady "yu pian mee fen". She read out my order as "yu rou mee fen".
I heard complaints that china helpers at coffee shops are not famiilarised with the drinks available in singapore. thus serve wrong drinks.
somehow, the bosses and the govt are to be blamed.

How is that suppose to help Singapore ?
Their currency is cheaper than ours.
What is it that WE have and they don't?
Well, this happen to every country these days....when you accept immigrant you accept their cultural strength and their cultural weakness. and inbetween everyone have to squeez a little. It will affect the local population.
It is more obvious here in SG because we are so small.
Your Uncle LKY think that immigrant is the way to go. Than it works Both way...new people come in.....People leaves...
i believe they rather existing locals leave and welcome more and more foreigners here. Possible that foreigners who become citizens will vote for them. This benefit them

That will be a short sighted way to stay in power.
1. Unless they enable PR to vote. Not many foreign workers will want to convert to SG citizenship. To enjoy the best of both worlds.. it's best to keep PR status for now.
2. The policies that affects current Singaporeans are what makes us resentful towards the current ruling party. By converting their PR to Singaporeans.. it just means that they will ALSO be affected by the policy as much as native SGreans. So in turn.. they will gripe about the same thing.. and end up just like us too. Unless born again Sgreans are classified differently.
3. Born again Sgreans..are not domesticated like the native ones. They may be MORE vocal and daring to show their displeasure, much like our forefathers who participated in riots and street demonstrations.
Are we setting up little red dot for political unrest all over again ?

Short-sighted but a possible fore-stalling strategy.
