Diminutive winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes that Manchester City can challenge his former side Chelsea.
Pint-sized wingman Shaun Wright-Phillips returned to Manchester City, the club that schooled him, after spending three years at Stamford Bridge outfit Chelsea.
Then followed an Arab takeover at Eastlands, and the Abu Dhabi-based cash injection has now made Manchester City the wealthiest side in the world.
Wright-Phillips believes that as well as challenging Chelsea financially, it will only be a matter of time before the Citizens can match the Pensioners on the pitch.
City had been struggling to string a run of results together since September, but the Blues will be hoping to use the acquisition of Robinho, together with the 3-0 demolition of Arsenal, as a springboard to greater things.
Moving On Up
"Yes [City can challenge Chelsea in the future], most definitely," Wright-Phillips is quoted by Sky Sports as saying.
"But it is not just something that is going to happen overnight," he warned.
"In the future it is something that is possible and likely. The club - in my eyes, and I think in the fans' and the owners' - can become a massive club.
"City can go a long, long way and contend for a lot of silverware," he said.
City are currently eleventh in the Premier League table and Mark Hughes will be expected to guide the side to an improved finish from their ninth-place position last season.
