      Q1) 120 -12 = 108

      9 units = 108

      Q2) 3 : 4 = 6: 8

      after giving 1/6, ratio becomes 5:9

      After giving 1/3, ratio becomes8:6

      2 units = 650

      14 units = 4550

      q3) are there taiwanese?

      can i trouble all of you for a few more as a prep for my exams? these are questions given by my maths teacher for revision.

      a. james is 1/4 as old as pete. in 5 yrs time, james will be 1/3 as old as pete. how old is james now?

      b. 6 jugs of water can fill 5/8 of a pail. another 3 jugs and 6 cups of water are needed to fill the pail completely. how many cups of water can the pail hold?

      c. anne and betty had $2600 altogether. after anne spent 3/4 of her money and betty spent 3/5 of hers, they each had the same amount of money left. how much money did each girl have at first?

      thanks in advance!

      Q48   Bryan invited 20 more boys than girls to a party. 3/4 of the boys and 2/3 of the girls came. 19 people didn't come. How many people did he invite?

      Q47   Visitors, 40% are children, 3/4 of the adults are women. (a) what is the ratio of children:men:women.  (b) the second day, children number increased by 20%, adults number remain the same but women is 3/5 of adult. if there are 336 more children than women, how many visitors on second day

      Q46   A millipede is climbing up a wall.
      For every 3cm it climbs, it slips by 1cm.
      It takes 3 seconds to climb 1 cm and 1 second to slip by 1cm.

      (a) How far would the millipede have climbed after 1 minute?
      (b) How long would the millipede take to climb 56cm?

       Anyone has questions for Q43, Q44, Q45 ?

      Q48) Let 4 units to represent all the boys he invited and blah blah
      4 units = 3 parts + 20
      1 unit + 1 parts = 19

      Therefore, 4 units = 3(19-1 unit) + 20
      4 units = 57 - 3 units + 20
      7 units = 77
      1 unit = 11
      4 units = 44

      3 parts = 44 - 20 = 24

      He invited 44 + 24 = 68.

      Q47)a)children:men:women = 40:45:15 = 8:9:3

      b) 40 x 120/100 = 48% children

      adults = remains at 60%

      3/5 x 60% = 36% women

      48 - 36 = 12%

      12% = 336

      1% = 28

      Total percent in the end = 48 + 60 = 108%

      108% = 3024

      Correct me if i am wrong. lol quite hard.

      Q 46) a) All together, one set = 4s

      60 / 4 = 15 sets
      15 x 2 = 30cm

      b) 56 / 2 = 28 sets

      28 x 4 = 112 cm.

      Q48)

      taking care of the extras ->1/4 x 20 = 5

      G and B are now of equal units. therefore all those not there are -> 5+1/4g + 1/3g = 19

      7/12g = 14

      g= 24, b = 24+20 = 44

      24+44 = 68

      @Firepig: lol note your ratio, your men and women reversed liao, else i agree with your answer for 47

      46a) for every 3 cm climbed (3 x 3sec) it slips 1 cm (1sec)

      total time spent climbing a total of 2 cm is 10sec (includes climbing and slipping)

      1minute -> 60 sec thus 6 sets of 2 cm climbed. distance traveled will be 6 x 2cm = 12cm.

      b)To climb 56 cm, 56/12= 4minute 40sec

      Hi

      For the millipede's problem, part (b)

       (54 + 2) , giving the time as 270 + 6 = 276s.The last 2cm was climbed without any  slipping.
