      Can anyone explain to me the application of english law in singapore?

      This is found in my lecture notes, but i dont understand.

      Former British colony: common law system
      English statutes & common law received via 1826 Second Charter of Justice, subject to necessary modifications for local conditions
      Section 5, Civil Law Act: English “mercantile law” applied in Singapore
      1993 Application of English Law Act - No English statutes except those specified in the Act applies in Singapore - English common law that was part of Singapore law as of 12 November 1993 continues to apply
