Singapore is definitely not the best place to retire, there are many places out here is good for retirement.
I missed my childhood kampong life whereby there is no TV, hardly have phones and electricity, drinking water from the well.
With my own papaya tree, neighbours growing vegetables around you, with lots of guava trees, rambutan trees and mango trees around you. I could always pluck one big guava whenever i want to eat. I had asked from my neighbour to eat fresh sugarcane that they have grown... etc etc etc. There were so many soursoup trees around me that time that i didnt cherish them and now I hardly can find fresh soursoup to eat.
I enjoyed flying kite once with my brother. One of our favorite places is a swimming pool kind of place where you can see fish inside and the water diversify to a small riverstream.
I love catching guppies when i I was young and was always beaten by my mom. I have caught tapoles and rear them like my pets till they are grown up to be little frogs. I love helping my neighbhour feeding and bathing his pigs and piglets. They are pinkish and fun to bath them. Surprises come in alot when by you found a warm egg that was just laid by a chicken. I missed playing with my neighbour dogs.
I missed all these and not internet .....
You definitely have your own dream of where to retire, am I right? I m saying you, and not me.

The Bremerton Naval Station is located within the sound, so there will be some submarine traffic in its waters.
If they start being bothersome, I'll just erect a depth charge launcher on the lawn of my waterfront home...

awwwww .... nice ! ... I've always had this soft spot for seattle too ...

but you do realize that seattle would be the first and nearest metropolitian area in the lower 48 for any ICBMs that, say, north korea would launch ? ...

I'm not worried as long their missiles don't hit any of the Wal*Mart stores or gunshops in the area.

I was thinking it would be nice to retire at one of the beach areas of thailand ....
the sun, the sand and the sea ....
run a pub or a resturant .. maybe a diving or sportfishing operation if I'm still up for it ....
low cost of living, friendly people, great food, great weather, not bad medical facilities, pretty safe, and not much pollution ....
