      hey folks,

      noticed many people living in QLD and NSW....any recommendations for interesting and off the beaten path places to visit and things to do? would love to hear from the locals as we'd really love to experience australia like the locals do - and to avoid all the tourist traps!! =)

      i dun know if byron bay is a tourist trap (now) but many years ago, i drove from brisbane to there and like the place a lot. there is a nice lighthouse there too.

      hey thanks for the recommendation reddust! ya..i'm planning to spend a night at byron bay on my way back to brisbane from sydney. it seems like a nice quiet place in some of the photos that i've seen =)

      HI guys im currently studying in byron bay
      Byron bay not much things to do , Stuffs are expensive and noting much to shop here .
      Some stuffs u could do is , Take a walk up the lighthouse ! Beatiful view of both side of byron bay .(The most east point of Mainland Australia is also at the lighthouse .

      The other thing u can do is to go down to nimbin , its about 1hr-1.5hr drive , If you dont have a car , go down to the byron bay visitor center , and book a tour to nimbin ,
      I recommend you to book the ‘Jims alternative tour’ from the visitor center , it cost $35 and the tour last from 10am-6pm .
      Also another recommendation is to go to the byron bay visitor center and look at the tours and the stuffs you can do at byron bay.
      And one more thing , Byron bay cheeky monkey has wet-t-shirt contest every thurs .

      hey gums! thanks for the tips. ya...i'm a big lighthouse fan...so am hoping to check out Cape Byron lighthouse. nimbin sounds like a great idea too if not for the fact that we are in a rush...and the route deviation will take us at least another 3+hrs and not including sightseeing. i'll definitely go check out the visitors' centre like you've recommended. what's cheeky monkey wet-tshirt???!!
