    • Basically your right and left legs and your left hand leg just react faste. And, why would you want to change from gear 1 to gear 3? Go from 1-2-3. To change gear without jerking, you must know where the biting point of your car is, this comes with experience and observance. Then you can release clutch faster without jerking.

totally agree with you. I drive moderate speed on normal roads, like 40 50 or 60 depending on road conditions. Whereas some cool guy just drove past me at 70 80? Then later i still see him at the next traffic light. NOT COOL AT ALL ;D

    • How fast you accelerate off is not important, what is important is that you be alert to the light change. When the green light comes on, move! It is very annoying to be four, five cars behind, and be caught by the red light again, just because the lead driver is dreaming. And watch out for green arrows too. Many times, I have seen drivers waiting to turn, but not moving when the green arrow comes on in their favour.

    • let me share my secret for picking up speed quickly. Clutch in and engage 1st gear. Rev engine to 6000RPM. When lights turn green, release clutch and ram your accelerator into the floor with all your strength!!!

Waste petrol and destroys the tyre =.=" The car will simply spin it tyres and accelerate slower. You don't see a F1 car spinning it's tyres when the race is about to start. It's simply not the fastest way.

But, I know you are joking....so take it easy ok?

    • aiya basically just coordinate both of your legs.. left foot immediately release to biting point while right foot step onto accelerator cocurrently.

best is just to drive auto car.. just step on the accelerator harder

u dun rev up to max rpm...

u rev to the point of max torque and release the clutch...

    • Hmm, upshift at the point of max torque or at the point where the torque and power curve intersect? icon_confused.gif icon_mrgreen.gif

    • still driving manual car?  It's time to move on to automatic.  Esp in spore, so many traffic lights, steep carpark slope, slow traffic, etc.  One leg does it all, the other leg can rest on the dash board.  no technique, just ram the accelerator to speed up.

You think everyone very rich to buy cars with auto tranny? Basic transport like Kia Picanto, Chery QQ, etc are still all fitted with manual trannies.

Crap cars like Chery QQ are dangerous.  Ask a small boy to punch the car and there will be dent.

    • I've always thought manual cars are more powerful, and the pick up is a lot faster than automatics.

I'm driving an auto, at the traffic junction, to move off faster from vehicle beside me, I'll floor the accelerator, no good for fuel but that is one method.

As for running the expressway, my gearbox is slow at going from 60 to 80km, what I usually do is feather accelerator, starting from 40km.

      -Edited-

As for other cars overtaking at first light, what I usually do is allow them to cut into my lane and allow them to move off first. Then overtake permanently 10 seconds down the expressway via third lane. It is a much nicer feeling. Slow but steady. I notice many taxi drivers on the road have acquired this habit.

Manual cars are more powerful and accelerate faster if you are very familiar with the car and can coordinate both legs with the right release and step-in.  Not forgetting, manual cars are more fuel efficient.

But if you are used to auto, moving back to manual is a big pain.

With this kind of fuel prices, there is no need for car race on the street. If someone drives faster than you, let him or her go unless they roadhog on you after overtaking you.  In that case, follow closely, wait for next lane to clear then ram in to overtake, cut back and roadhog him back.
