My mom cooks a Teochew version of a 'chye png' too! It's rice placed cooked in the rice cooker first, then cooked again with yam, chinese sausage, cabbage, mushrooms, and dark soya sauce stirred in. Wink

      Yummy!! Very Happy

Mom calls it 'Orh Png'. (Yam Rice).

      Quite simple to make! Wink

I think, if you were to stir-fry the ingredients first, and make it a bit 'wet', then throw in the stock to cook with the rice grain, and then, when the rice is cooked, throw in the ingredients and stir them into the rice, then cook for a while longer, it'll be even better, because the goodness in the stock would have permeated into the rice grains! Very Happy

'kiam' sounds like 'salt' but it means 'kiam' as in 'dishes'. As in 'png puay kiam'.

Last night, my hubby asked why I posted a pic of char kuey teow! Wahahaha... Laughing

This chye png is a variation of the Teochew orh png, but I don't fancy orh, so added chicken/pork and fishcake. The mushrooms gave a wonderful fragrance to the rice. The Hokkiens called it kiam png. Chye png is a Teochew term (learned fr my mum). Smile

sorry, i still can't attach my pasta pix here... dunno y can't post.

Rhonda : OK, I tried to fix the problem for you but the site that's hosting your picture is against 'bandwidth theft'. So, if you still want to post the pic, you'll have to save it to your PC, then upload it to some photo-hosting sites like www.photobucket.com and then, cnp the url here. Wink

    • Very yummy looking, but your photos look a bit purplish...don't do justice to your food. Laughing

So you actually cook the herbal chicken in the plastic itself? Wrap in plastic & foil then steam?
