    • I recently applied for a reservists deferrement for one of my staff.

"<Rank Name> is being promoted within the organization and will completing his transition into the new appointment as Team Leader on <date>. His new appointment as a Team Leader is a critical one where his skills, knowledge and presence are vital to the smooth operations of the team and vital to our customer service standards.

We are unable to find a stand in as the outgoing Team Leader is leaving our organization. Being absent for 2 weeks, fresh into his new position will be very detrimental to our operations and service levels to our customers."

      Mindef sent a reply saying

"Your deferment application is Not Approved as your Work Commitment is not a valid
ground for deferment. Please make the necessary arrangements and attend the ICT as
      scheduled."

Ok so WTF? I mean, even a 6 mth deferrment would have been a great help. Not even willing to consider on a case to case basis? This this the government's stand? Does Mindef mean that I do not pick Singaporean Males with Reservists liability for critical positions?

    • it depend on individual unit. i bet your one is army unit outfit.

everytime, i apply for deferment in navy, due to work commitment, it approve even the last minute.

did you ask your director, GM to sign your letter?

If u r not a manager, asking for deferment has less persuasive power, coz the unit believe yr job are not irreplaceable.

last resort, appeal, citing the project amount and importance of your presence of this project. call them! dont just write letter.

    • That is not fair.    I come across doctors in the govt hospital applying for deferrment and have never been rejected.  ONe of whom just assumed new appointment, too.

team leader is not a "strong" job position to believe in... think of another word for it...

give some more excuse of like the handover is "in the middle of an expensive project"...

all depends on unit CO one

    • I share your woes. I have the same problem. if you search the forum here you can see my agony. I appealed 3 times even with MP letter and to no avail. Seriously I think Mindef has a problem.
