armament tech?

  hi guys ,
  
  i`m been posted to OETI as a armament tech but i have no idea what it is?
  
  wonder if u guys can help me with some questions?
  
  1.)what do you learn as a armament tech?
  2.) Is the course long?
  3.) i`m from the navy , anything different from what the army guys will learn?
  4.) is it true , oeti very slack?

  1) Somethings that are related to rifles etc maybe and you will be under EWTW - electronics and weapons training wing
  
  2) There are 2 types of armament tech -- Heavy and small arms. Heavy arms course is usually about 4 months while small arms is about 2 months.
  
  3) Not very sure but i think there will be not much difference.
  
  4) of course! Stay out camp and you can do almost nothing in a day. Some more 3SG rank is waiting for you without the needs of chiong suah

  Welcome to the elite.Where you will join the small ranks of people who know how to repair dozens of weapon types.
  
  If you are a Small Arms Tech, which as a Navy fellow, you most likely would be, , the course will be 3 mths.
  
  Navy Techs might have more hands on training on support weapons like the GPMG or CIS 50,though the syllabus might have changed since 2 years back.
  
  OETI is a stay-out training school.0730-1730/1800 approx.

  There are three types of armament techs: small arms, heavy arms and turrets.
  
  Common name for small arms tech is ARMORER as you will be known in unit life.
  
  Common name for heavy arms tech is GUNFITTER.( which is only found in base and arty units.
  
  No idea what they call the turret techs??? but there is at least one armorer in every unit i think. Even police armorers are trained in OETI.(it is likely to be the most relax period of your NS life)

  i think the 3SG rank is more for admin purpose, you need the rank and the spec grade to sign certain weapon inspection certs etc.,

  well.......i dun see how the common name is demeaning. btw it is the original name in the older days, in fact gunfitter is an official vocation name on the certificate of my OETI instructor(a very nice warrant)
  
  it's like we call admin assitants as clerks or supply assitants as storeman etc.
  
  i am indeed proud to be gunfitter or if you prefer armament tech specialist(heavy arms).
  
  its our job that really counts.

  I prefer my men to be called Heavy Arms and Small Arms Techs
  
  Being called armourer sounds as though the person is the one in charge of the armoury, and many of those infantry dudes mistake that....sheesh!

  Yes.And to ensure your role in a battalion is protected, if not, you might be just pulled left and right to do sai kang.Being a Specialist and holding a key role in the unit helps to improve your work quality.

  turret mechs are just called turret mechs.
  
  i'm ok with the term armorer. armt. tech is really too long. what else should we be called? rifle tech? gun tech?

  Nope.Though it helps if you are PES C.But the intake is not very huge.
