    • Back in 1970s when government was talking about attracting and retaining talents they probably had the idea of comparing with the best-paid entrepreneurs like bosses of law firms, investment companies, broker firms at CEO level or higher many of whom were running their own companies or businesses under the investment categories.

How many of our ministers are really bosses investing in businesses by the millions using their own monies to be entitled to such high pays?

In order to give themselves the highest pays for the ministers the government will naturally have to push up the salaries of senior civil servants and CEOs of GLCs many of whom are actually not equal to private-sector business owner bosses like owners of broker firms or law firms investing in businesses with their own monies.

Yet for doing routine bill collector jobs many routine managers and executives were given glamorous titles to be entitled to higher pays with all sorts of promotions given to add to numbers and nothing more.

All over the world employees belonging to the categories of bill collectors are not the kind of people who help to make monies or create jobs like the entrepreneurs in the private sector and as such they are not worth millions. But in our case all sorts of schemes were put up to glamourise jobs which were ordinary routines but many became talents by the back doors worth peanuts or millions.

For example, routine MPs were pushed up to become mayors and estates officers CEOs or General Managers.

The ordinary workers do not have such luck to earn such artificially enriched salaries due to the need to push up ministers own salaries.

The citizens therefore have to be made to pay higher fees for medical services or public transportation GLCs as the GLC CEOs are now highly paid. The final objective has been to increase the salaries of ministers who could now benchmark to highest pays of all these people.

Therefore by the need to push up ministers' pays the salaries of President and GLCs' CEOs must go up and be artificially pushed up to the highest possible benchmarked to some private sector's few successful lucky boss investor CEOs for doing even routine requiring no special entrepreneurial skills to be worth millions.

Therefore President was lucky to receive highest pays not for any special talents but due to the need to increase ministers' own pays.

ya. i observed that there is this worrying trend of the parliament increasing the president's pay.

shortly after, there would be this report in the newspaper reporting that "Recently, the President has approve a bill put forth by the Parliament to increase ministerial pay/ civil servant's pay etc, to increase competitiveness with the private sector"

"our civil servants (mainly refering to the ministers) are underpaid, as compared to industry leaders  in other fields (followed by comparison with top 10% income earners of lawyers, engineers and other big bosses of their firms)"

this trend is worrying, if not sickening....

    • his pay is ludicrous given the ceremonial role the president is playing.

wiki -  " After the war, whilst working, he completed his secondary education through self-study, and entered the University of Malaya (then in Singapore) where he graduated in 1954 with a Diploma in Social Studies (DistinctionChinese Schools, such as the Rangoon Road Afternoon School, and later Victoria School. "
