PAP supporters rally after their victory at the polls.
PAP supporters rally after their victory at the polls.

With the successful conclusion of the election, all the members of the Parliament were now elected, and thus theoretically achieved full consent of the governed. The PAP as ruling party was able to form a new government of Singapore on 3 June 1959 that was fully elected which could now adopt domestic policy without oversight from the colonial administration. The United Kingdom still however controlled the military forces, foreign affairs and had a joint responsibility in internal security under agreement. However, the year of the conclusion of the elections and the formation of the new government — 1959 — is generally the date specified by historians for the achievement of self-government for Singapore, even though the Constitution had been amended in 1958.

Can't blame him, there are little supporters for P4P. Even Gazelle is trying very hard to lend credibility by creating clones.

Did Singaporeans wanted the PAP 'to rule' or 'to govern' Singapore ?

Was there a misunderstanding to the mandate given to the PAP that ended with them 'ruling over' Singaporeans like an Emperor ?

Did Singaporeans elect an Emperor, or a Plitical Party to form a Government to govern Singapore ?

Did LKY misunderstood his position - and that of the PAP - after seeking the mandate from each Election ?

      Definition of ‘’To Rule”

      1. To exercise control, dominion, or direction over; govern.

      2. To dominate by powerful influence.

      3. To decide or declare authoritatively or judicially; decree. See Synonyms at decide.

      Definition of ‘’To Govern”

      1. To make and administer the public policy and affairs of; exercise sovereign authority in.

      2. To control the speed or magnitude of; regulate: a valve that governs fuel intake.

      3. To control the actions or behavior of: Govern yourselves like civilized people.

      4. To keep under control; restrain: a student who could not govern his impulses.

      5. To exercise a deciding or determining influence on: Chance usually governs the outcome of the game.

      6. Grammar To require (a specific morphological form) of accompanying words.

    • Brother, using words like "to rule" or "to govern" are semantically archaic and rhetorical.wink.png In a true democracy, these volcabularies are as odd and out of place as self-proclaimed elitism. It would be ironical or seemingly unimaginable that any person in a stable state of mind would vote to be dominated by another saved that of fumblemindedness. People elect their "representatives" (and not rulers or governors) to serve their interests on the macro-level, but the risk of slipping into self-voluntary slavery is eminent and real if they are intellectually feeble. As a result thereof, we will see an inversion of wit and folly.tongue.png

I am agreeable and have no quarrel with that. Political freedom including political bargaining and negotiation came to an end as early as in 1959 whence the freedom of choice in economic, social, and political arenas were utterly erased; thereby putting an end to pluralistic liberal democracy and open negotiations between competing parties.  There is no doubt why you hear only “just PAP, PAP and PAP from my kindergarden to U” (and you should be glad to be envied by many, including me, to be able to receive your tertiary education); and many thanks to our propagandized local media too. Therefore, borrowing from Mahatma Gandhi, if you want changes then “(you) must be the change (you) want to see in the world”.

Mmmm….I sincerely apologize to your Ah Kong for my insensitivity. After 45 years of soaking in a culture that meanings are often inferred into plain sentences, it must logically follow that the same would apply to plain socialization. This mistake is mine.
