    • Dear all,

I understand that each of you have your own take about the pay issue and wish to share with the rest in SC. I am for sharing but there are too many threads on the same topic and it makes house keeping a little difficult for the moderators. I propose consolidating all topics here.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

    • Here's how we feel, Mr Minister (SGF version)

On Wednesday, TNP conducted a poll of 200 and stated that few object to pay hike.

Looking at the online response of this saga, I truly doubt that few object to the pay hike, thus this poll.

Do you object to the minister's pay hike?

      A) Yes
      B) No

      ***

      A) Yes - 33 (91.6%)
      B) No - 3 (8.3%)

Total polled [36]: Pitot, dragg, alexkusu, laurence82, hisoka, wisefool83, brokenluv, vaxjunior, robertteh, turbo_drift, CKeer, popmynutsy, sand king, YI, 798, storywolf, SpeedStar, Trump_Card, allentyb, kilua, ORIGAMIST, (human), googoomuck, JerzZzzZ, Kenashi, sgquitter, user_0, gigabyte14, ^MaRcUs^, soul_rage, Daniao, club18, I-like-flings(m), SnowFlag, richong 3216 (via PM), spinsugar

P.S: Only those who have stated (A) or (B) in their post will be included in the poll. (Stating yes or no do not count). Idea

      Poll continued from here

      Cheers

    • well moderater,
I think it is kinda messy to combine the similar topics here....
      anyway, i poll for
      A.
I'm more concern about the widening of the rich-poor gap.

    • I agree with marcus, bumming all topics into 1 area will result in less people reading, coz its more scary to go thru a 20+ page thread than individual threads

      A for me too
      same concern as marcus

    • Point noted. But do think on the side of moderators when we have to do house keeping etc. It is quite difficult for us if there are so many topics spread out over the forums.

Anyway I have placed the topic on sticky. It will be easier for all of you.

      Regards,
      GG

      I agree.
This issue of pap hike rised many other issues.
Its difficult for readers and posters alike to search through one thread's postings.

Mr Moderator. You cannot do things for ur own convenience but result in everyone else inconvenience.

    • well,
the previous discussions have been just fine,
by simply closing them up and consolidating them,
different but similar topics into one,
as can be seen from responses this afternoon,
its as good as closing up discussions....
so i hereby request the moderator to unlock the previous topics...

Agreed, like because all the threads are in one now, I also don't know to reply to which thread. Although the thread topics surround one issues, they are mainly discussing different aspects of it. And to combine a polling thread to discussion thread will only create even more confusion. Perhaps the moderators can open up one or two at least for us to continue our discussion? Thanks in advance.

    • It will cost S$3.10 million to employ our PM for his own pay plus S$3.0 million more for a senior minister's pay and another S$3.0 million for a mentor's pay.

This means it will cost at least S$9.1 million to employ our PM not to mention the 8 months' bonuses, lifelong fees and double pays (full pay plus retirement pay) for his mentor.

      The Electric New Paper :
Think of nation as... S'PORE INC
How should Mr Shareholder view CEO's gesture from heart?
THANK you very much for what is a selfless act, PM Lee - donating the increase in your salary for five years.
      13 April 2007
THANK you very much for what is a selfless act, PM Lee - donating the increase in your salary for five years.

You told Parliament yesterday: 'To make it quite clear why I am doing this and also to give me the moral standing to defend this policy with Singaporeans, I will hold my own salary at the present level for five years.'

Mr Lee Hsien Loong added: 'The Government will pay me my full salary because that is the way the system will have to work. But for five years, whatever the increase in the salary above its present level, I will donate to suitable good causes.'

In a way, your gesture is also a Catch 22.

It tells ordinary Singaporeans that serving the nation is a higher calling than working in a big company for big bucks.

      Your job calls for heart.

And you have shown that yours is in the right place.

But at the same time, you need to protect the principle that public servants should not have to make big personal sacrifices, especially when their skills would earn them much more in the marketplace.

It is also good that you made it a personal decision.

'I don't expect other ministers to follow me. (The pay rise) is a Cabinet decision, but I am the one who's carrying the ultimate responsibility and not them individually...

'What individual ministers want to do is up to them. What individual MPs want to do is also up to you.

'I know that the ministers and the MPs already support various worthy causes, but it should not be a public ostentatious display of how generous and self-sacrificing I am but a private matter for them to decide at their own discretion.'

The hope is that the House - and your Cabinet - understands your call.

If all your ministers followed your example and donated their increases, the ngeow (fault-finding in Hokkien) citizen will say: 'See, you don't really need the extra money.'

Then we'll be back at Square One.

So what more can a well-meaning person do?

Then-PM Goh Chok Tong in 1995 turned down a pay rise (for five years).

Do people still remember the gesture?

Will they remember PM Lee's donation years from now?

Well, it's all up to you, Mr Citizen.

      First, understand the issue.

      Then, form your judgment.

PM Lee used his head, then his heart led the way.

So think this through, Mr Citizen.

Then let your heart decide how to view a beau geste - a beautiful gesture.

anyway with reference to thread titled "Sylvia Lim's parl speech on ministers' pay" - what was the response from teo or whoever after she made her speech?

is there anywhere with a full transcript of the whole meaningless but a lot of words debate?

    • I am for adjusting pay for ppl working in the public service who does require pay increase.

BUT I am totally disgusted by the bullsh*t reasons of increasing pay for ppl whose pay is already at unbelievable levels.

If the so call pay adjustments is not uniform as what they claimed then why not adjust those public service jobs that need adjusting, freeze those pay that is already at f**king unbelievable levels.

    • I think nothing wrong w consolidation... but it should be to maybe 4-5 subtopics that are relevant... (1 thread limit causes disorganization in a big issue discussion)

I have great respect for moderator bc to consolidate to 4-5 sub topics, mod must be familiar wif the topic discussed, choose the appropriate topics to leave open; and which to close (best to close the topic with an message redirecting reader to the approp thread)

    • i feel so sad for our Singapore's ministers.

made so much finanical sacrifices, did so much for singapore...

yet get so much complains and objections from all u people for just a bit of pay rise which they fully deserve. Crying or Very sad

if u people still have a heart, PLS pls stop all the complainings now.

4 years down the road, remember all the things they suffer, did for us, and to THEMSELVES today.

Let's all be united and help to vote these poor-earning PAP guys out of the cabinent in the next election ...

let them all return to their own professions in the private sector and earn their mega bucks

give them a chance to prove that they can be at the top of the earning chart in the private sector and let the future ministers's salary be pegged against theirs

they are talents, and DESERVE TO LEAVE the govt for a better life outside.
